A runner running up a hill.

This is a re-post back when I read Never Finished by David Goggins. Similar to how I felt super pumped and motivated then, I still carry that sentiment today. His story was moving and his message is clear: We have a limited amount of time here on earth; use it wisely. Here are 3 useful techniques straight from Goggins:

1. Check your ABCs:

Airway, Breathing, Circulation

acronym/analogy to follow through with your top 3 priorities

2. Record yourself self-talk

to assess mood to get back on track

3. ROGER that.

The Essential Nuggets of Wisdom from Goggins:

  • nourish seeds of resilience

  • shows how people process trauma through denial & different perspectives

  • “Accepting your full truth, including all your faults, imperfections, and missteps allows you to evolve, expand your possibilities, seek redemption, and explore your true potential.”

  • I did not cave into the emotion and quit. When people do that, they aren’t even making an actual decision to quit. It’s a default reaction due to stress.

  • Regroup for productive self-talk.

  • trained humility

  • relieve unnecessary pressure to get the task done

  • willingness > life purpose & motivation

  • others do not have the choice that we have

  • prep for failures

  • intentionally choose your tribe

  • examine beliefs, know yourself & values

  • believe in yourself, stand by what you believe

  • always train for the next experience

  • leaders live for something bigger than themselves

  • you can redefine yourself
